Career Change: 3 Reasons to move from BPO to IT

After spending two years in BPO industry these 3 reasons given motivation to me in my Career Change. You can refer my blog to understand How to change from BPO to IT?

1. Nature of Work: In BPO industry the nature of work is monotonous in non voice process. You have to strictly adhere to the Standard operational procedure or process. In initial days your job helps you to enhance your skill set, but over a period of time your learning curve became normal. At this stage you can able to work fast since you are doing it regularly. But there will be no growth in your learning and skill development after reaching to this stage.

2. Low Compensation: The compensation paid to the BPO employees is less compare to IT industry.
Did you know I worked for a IT project on BPO payroll at Infosys BPO?. Though my nature of duties are technical in nature the allowances and compensation offered was very low when we compare to IT people. This gives huge profits to the companies because they utilize the IT skills of the resources by paying low CTC and allowance. Yet we can see lot of discrimination between IT and BPO employees.

3. Internal Job Postings : Every company mentions there are opportunities to move from BPO to IT within organization, but the truth is managers do not allow employees to move and show lot of policies restrictions to do so. Because manages have to face the challenges to replace a skilled employee. In my opinion internal transfer happens when there are excess employees or to retain a resigned employees. This change gives a minimal hike in compensation and designation compare to market standards.

I wish you good luck and decide on your career change. Please feel free to provide your comments and spread this by sharing this to your friends on Facebook, Twitter or Whatapp. -Thank you

Career change BPO to IT: How to change from BPO to IT?

Planing to change your career from BPO to IT? Here are the tips from my personal experience.

Did you know that I started my career as a Process Executive when I worked for Infosys BPO in 2008?  As it was recession time, after completing my Bachelor Degree in Science, I chosen BPO industry as my first career . BPO is also known as ITES which means Information Technology enabled Services. I worked for two years in BPO sector,

Do you know? what I learnt?

It taught me how to communicate with Customers and clients. It taught me how to overcome objections. It taught me how to work hard for what I wanted. It taught me how to manage time. By working in stringent time lines I have learnt many shortcuts to speed up work using computer .

Do you know? How I moved?

After working there for 2 years, I decided to move to IT sector. So I  discussed with my manager and expressed my interest in IT sector and followed up with him to consider for an Internal Job posting. Finally I succeeded and got an opportunity to work on a IT project in the same company. There was no change in my salary structure and designation, all I got was a chance to enhance my IT skills and exposure to the technology.I worked there for two years and enhanced my IT skills then started attending interviews in IT sector.

Do you know? How I cleared Interview?

I have faced lot of difficulties while attending interviews because of my BPO designation and nature of my work. Since I was working for a IT project on BPO payroll interviewers raised doubts and concerns over it and my genuinity.  Some interviewers asked Questions like why are you changing from BPO to IT sector?  and Why don't you get an IT job in your own organisation? and some raised doubts on my IT skills?. I have made necessary changes on my resume and explicitly mentioned my job nature like I am working for an IT project but getting salary on BPO payroll. I took training on latest technologies or in my work area, Started convincing the interviewers for the above questions with proper explanation. After multiple attempts finally I was able to get a job with a top MNC company for an IT job. I am currently working as a IT consultant in a product based company.

I’m excited to be a part of your journey. Please feel free to share this blog with others and share me your success stories. I wish you good luck.
